01 Promises 02:36
The promises you made, The actions I can’t do, Reduce and define, A shape I can’t fit through, Not moulded from clay, Delivered from a womb, Reborn every day, Until I see my tomb, Look at me, Straight in the face, These days are burning, Look at me breaking the ties, Look at me, Straight in the face, These days are burning, Look at me straight in the eyes, You’re paralysed, These blemishes don’t fade, Like confidence in you, Been broken before, But now just break on through, I scrub my skin raw, See right through to the bone, Eye sockets I claw, Adrift and all alone, Look at me, Straight in the face, These days are burning, Look at me breaking the ties, Look at me, Straight in the face, These days are burning, Look at me straight in the eyes, You’re paralysed, Hold my place I’m burning, Fuck your lies, Look at me, Hold my place, I’m burning, Look at me straight in the eyes.

We’re on our own, surrounded by bones, We’ve buried the bodies and smashed all the stones, We tried to hide, inside here alone, Betrayed by a heartbeat, undone by a moan, And still you will, run on through the streets, Tossing and turning in bloodstained sheets, The pain again, appears on your face, If we cannot hide from it, we’ll be erased, In this life, we have no choice, No free will and no free voice, Every face on every street, Another clone, a piece of meat, Say what you see, And let me be, It’s not just me, Every day another lie, Every time we say goodbye, The chains we wear, we cannot break, The world we live in our mistake, We’re in the dirt, we struggle, we hurt, Condemned to a lifetime of shoes and shirt, So raise your hand, and understand, What makes you a moron won’t make you a man, Look into the eyes that perpetrate lies, And witness the practice you’ve always despised, The truth, you see, is no mystery, It’s just been kept hidden from you and from me, In this life, we have no choice, No free will and no free voice, Every face on every street, Another clone, a piece of meat, Say what you see, And let me be, It’s not just me, Every day another lie, Every time we say goodbye, The chains we wear, we cannot break, The world we live in our mistake.

Guardian is enemy, At war with myself, I’m in the wrong, A conflict we don’t choose, There’s no resolution, There’s no mediation, And no easy end, Civilisation deserts me, Abandon all my hopes and dreams, This tragic reality, this conflict, Is overwhelming everything, My split personality, my instinct, Synaptic warfare conquers fast, Fortification is useless, Losing strength with every blast, My very self dissolves and splits and dissipates, Foundations of my mind collapse again, I smash a fist against the cruel mirror pane, But all I see is a separated man. Intoxication pervades me, Dampening my primal scream, This total insanity, no contact, With any other human being, My grip on reality, eroded, By this imposed authority, Tranquilisation, inducement, Just maintaining this fallacy, My very self dissolves and splits and dissipates, Foundations of my mind collapse again, I smash a fist against the cruel mirror pane, But all I see is a separated man.

04 No Right 02:50
Escape from the landslide but thinking’s like running through sand, I’m wet on the inside but I know I’ll still find dry land, Feel so sedate, I cannot wait, Surrounded by love while your mind is consumed by hate, I won’t tire of listening but I’m tired of that same old song, I’ll skip past tomorrow cause that would just take me too long, I found a reason, I found a voice and a way, Fuck all your promises, I have a trust that will stay, We see no wrong, We seek the truth, No more running, We know that you must feel the same. Avoiding the upsurge you set yourself up for a fall, Their lies and their insults will stop you from hearing your call, Seething with rage, Write your own page, It’s time to take control, it’s time to disengage, I won’t tire of listening but I’m tired of that same old song, I’ll skip past tomorrow cause that would just take me too long, I found a reason, I found a voice and a way, Fuck all your promises, I have a trust that will stay, We see no wrong, We seek the truth, No more running, We know that you must feel the same. We see no right, We see the same lies every night, But pass no judgement, gonna Stand up and fight, We’re gonna have the lives we feel we can, We see no right, We’re getting closer every night, We will not wait, you gotta Stand up and fight, We’re taking all the life back that we can, We see no wrong, We seek the truth, No more running, We know that you must feel the same.

05 Break You 02:18
I can’t believe how I feel I’m tongue-tied, battered and bruised, I’m at the end of my tether I’m shattered and knackered and used, Trying hard to escape this life drown it all in the sea, Because I’m sick of the shit they’re always sticking to me, They make you stupid and me ill, They aim to maim and shoot to kill, Abuse you, when they’ve had their fill, They’ll spit you into space, Yet if you try to rise above, They’ll empty all your soul of love, They’ll break you with their iron glove, And smash you in your face, in your face, I hold the child in my arms, it’s body torn apart, I knew the system was flawed and fucked up from the start, Is there any respite from the suffering and pain? Because I never want to go through that again, They make you stupid and me ill, They aim to maim and shoot to kill, Abuse you, when they’ve had their fill, They’ll spit you into space, Yet if you try to rise above, They’ll empty all your soul of love, They’ll break you with their iron glove, And smash you in your face, in your face,

about

Breaking Class was the first and only record by The Mirrormen, who existed between 1999 and 2003 in North London. Tracks 1-5 recorded at Premier Studios, Corby by Iain on 14/3/2002 with the line up: Keefer (vox), Cammy (guitars), Robin (drums), Zan (bass). Track 6 recorded at Zed One Studios by Pete Lyons on 10/05/2002. All tracks were written and arranged by the Mirrormen and practiced / honed in Zed One Studios, Camden - much love and respect to all the crew there!

The CD was released by Tuneless Records (UK) and Malt Soda Records (Az, USA). Many, many thanks to Scooter at Malt Soda who was the most supportive, generous and decent label boss we could ever have had. (admittedly, he is the only one I have ever had apart from myself). Hope we will meet you one day and buy you a few beers!

We were collectively paid £12 royalties which arrived just in time for our final practice in 2003. We bought a beer each in the Unicorn (which is now a regular gig venue but in those days was an Arsenal pub), then Cammy and Robin left and Joe and Keefer stopped for another beer. As they drank, they decided they still had music to make together, and conceived of the band which was to become Flowers Of Flesh And Blood that very night... true story.
